Buck a Shuck!
What a perfect day! The fog had finally lifted and the sun was out in full effect! I started the day off with my camera in hand ready to capture more pictures of my day and the crew! At 10 we had MET students come aboard and had them help with all different projects on board. I got to photograph the work that they helped us with. After lunch I organized our sea lab and worked on uploading my photos from my camera to my phone so that I could edit them before putting them on my computer. By the time I had finished with all my photos it was climbing time. I grabbed my harness and got ready to climb up to the main topsail to furl the sail. This took a little over an hour since we had to loosen gaskets, swim the sail (reach, grab, and pull outboard), bust the sail, and then tighten all the gaskets again. Although it sounds like a lot it was SO fun. I love going aloft and seeing the boat from a different angle.
By the time we were done with everything aloft it was time for our end of day muster. After reviewing our work from the day Holly and I headed into town. At first our mission was to just walk around and maybe pop into a few shops. In reality we ended up at a local restaurant and it was buck a shuck night. This might have been the highlight of the day. After downing 2 dozen oysters, clam casinos (a new fav for Holly and I) and some Shirley temples we go on with our evening. We rocked out to some classics on the car ride back to Fort Adams and then feasted on some amazing pork chops, asparagus, croissants, and hollandaise sauce made by our second mate, Clint. To top the night off Holly, Jamie, Luke, Clint, and I hopped in the white boat and cruised around the bay. We watched the sunset and it was breathtaking. I had decided to leave my phone on the ship and it was the best decision ever. Having gone to both Mountain and Ocean Classroom I have learned the power of disconnecting to reconnect with yourself. This was a prime example. Being on the water with my awesome crew after a long day of work is something that will stand out to me more than climbing aloft or doing daily projects. Being able to be on the water, listen to good music, and be surrounded by this crew is something I am very grateful for. Can’t wait to share more tomorrow!
